A Rough Guide to the Politics and Misinformation Regarding Osteopathy within BC

Thank you for taking the time to visit this (growing!) section of my website, Osteopathy Vancouver.

Please note that the information here is not an "offical voice" of any organisation in Canada or the UK.

The motivation behind this part of the site is in response to the continually baffling behaviour, with the deliberate presentation of misinformation in the guise of "the public interest", by the Canadian Osteopathic Association (COA) who represent osteopathic physicians and not Osteopaths. We have all signed up to the same international agreement on osteopathic practice, but, conveniently, they choose to ignore it within Canada!

Please do not misunderstand the tone as being unpleasant, as it is intended to be direct and to the point with a sideways glance at some of the more "questionable" aspects of the misinformation being peddled. This, of course, is all supported by verifiable publicly available information through websites and Freedom of Information requests, as well as from the communications that I have received personally over the years and I encourage you to make up your own mind and come up with some suggestions - let's face it, they can't be half as mad as what's going on so far!

In 2004 I stood up for the osteopathic profession across Canada by successfully proving in BC the point that international osteopathic practice is not just for those trained in the United States. In 2009 however, the "20-or-so" US-trained osteopathic physicians in Canada are at it again in trying to prevent the "1000-or-so" Canadian and other internationally-trained osteopaths from practising openly in Canada.

Someone needs to stand up and just tell it how it really is - might as well be me again.
